Tithes - A Blog Comment

9:45 AM, 25/5/2006 .. Posted by MarkT

In the Hebrew Bible (OT) he Levites were supported by the tithes of 11 other tribes so basically got 110% of which they had to tithe to the poor. One twelfth of Israel was in "ministry" as a Levite... which included the door keepers, musicians etc.

Do church musicians and doorkeepers get paid the same salary as clergy in contemporary church? Of course not!

Are one tenth of all the people in organised church in a paid clergy/ministry position paid by tithes of money? Of course not!

The tithe, a Christian tax on believers, is an extra burden placed on worshippers who already pay a higher tax to the government than anything comparable in Jesus' day. It is also a misnomer to call the 10% Church tax a "tithe" as tithes were only ever of FOOD - crops and animals... and the
church has changed the tithe of FOOD into $$$... and God condemns the usury of the financial systems where churches put their $$$.

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithe into the STOREHOUSE, that there may be FOOD in my house.

Maybe ministers should only be paid with food and shelter just like the Levites were!

Hebrews 13:5 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have."

Tithing is a huge (and profitable) Christian scam based on the greed of the ministerial elite. It is a "Benefit of Clergy" that has not been satisfactorily addressed. It is basic hypocrisy - milking the sheep. Most Christian ministers participate in it. It is dishonest.

Frank Zappa - "Heavenly Bank Account"

From the album You are what you is, 1981, (Bark 2-Barking PW2-37537)

And if these words you do not heed
Your pocketbook just kinda might recede
When some man comes along and
Claims Godly need
He will clean you out right through your
Tweed

That's right, remember there is a big
Difference between kneeling down
And bending over...
He's got twenty million dollars
In his heavenly bank account...
All from those chumps who was
Born again
Oh yeah, oh yeah

He's got seven limousines
And a private plane...
All for the use of his
Special friends
Oh yeah, oh yeah
He's got thousand-dollar suits
And a wembley tie...
Girls love to stroke it
While he's on the phone
Oh yeah, oh yeah

At the house of representatives
He's a groovy guy...
When he gives thanks
He is not alone...

He is dealin'
He is really dealin'
IRS can't determine
Where the hook is

It is easy with the bible
To pretend that
You're in show biz

They won't get him
They will never get him
For the naughty stuff
That he did

It is best in cases like this
To pretend that
You are stupid

He's got presidential help
All along the way

He says the grace
While the lawyers chew
Oh yeah
They sure do

And the governors agree to say:
"He's a lovely man!"
He makes it easier for
Them to screw
All of you...
Yes, that's true!

'cause he helps put the fear of God
In the common man
Snatchin' up money
Everywhere he can
Oh yeah
Oh yeah

He's got twenty million dollars
In his heavenly bank account
You ain't got nothin', people
You ain't got nothin', people
You ain't got nothin', people
Thank the man...oh yeah
